Preah Vihear is the name for both province and temple. The province is located at the north of Cambodia bordering Thailand and Lao. The temple is situated on top of Preah Vihear mountain which overlook the Thailand territory. It was built in the 12th century, located between Thailand and Cambodia. It was listed as World Heritage Site in 2008.
Cambodia won the dispute about Preah Vihear territory issue against Thailand. Den Haag international court decided to give it to Cambodia as the owner. And the tension was still going on until 2000s. But now there is no more tension.
The journey from Siem Reap to Preah Vihear takes around 3 and half our with the distance of 220km. You will need to drive up to the hill in order to visit the temple. Temple is located on the top of the mountain. You will overlook the magnificent view of Thailand from the mountain. The mountain range is called as Dangrek Mountain. The mountain bordered 3 countries: Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.
